Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She was a reporter for the CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and the chief correspondent for foreign affairs at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell reported on a variety of notable stories, including the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. Mitchell traveled along with Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate issues including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
